Troubleshoot Shopify publishing
Use this guide if content is ready in Rankvia but does not publish to Shopify as expected, the wrong blog or status is used, an image is missing, or Rankvia and Shopify show different publication states.
Start with the symptom you're seeing.
Check these first
- 1. Confirm the Shopify store. Make sure you're working with the intended Shopify-associated Rankvia website.
- 2. Confirm the content is ready. The article itself must have finished generating before Shopify publishing can complete.
- 3. Confirm the publishing destination. Check that the intended Shopify blog still exists and is available to Rankvia.
- 4. Check the current publishing state. Determine whether the content is ready to publish, publishing, Draft in Shopify, Published, or needs attention.
- 5. Check the Shopify connection. If Rankvia says the Shopify app connection needs attention, restore it before retrying the article.
My Shopify blogs don't appear
Rankvia needs to load the blogs available for the connected Shopify store before it can choose a publishing destination. In Shopify Admin, confirm that the intended blog exists, then reopen the Shopify publishing action in Rankvia.
If the connection is invalid or inactive, restore it before trying to load blogs again. A single available blog can be selected as the default; when several blogs exist, Rankvia does not choose one arbitrarily.
Troubleshoot the Shopify app connectionThe blog I need is missing
If Rankvia can see other Shopify blogs but not the one you expect, confirm that the blog belongs to the same Shopify store associated with the current Rankvia website. Reopen the publishing action after confirming the blog exists.
When a saved default blog was deleted or is no longer available, choose and save an available default blog for future publishing. Do not create a duplicate blog just to work around a missing selection.
The wrong Shopify blog is selected
Rankvia can reuse a saved default blog for the store. For a new Shopify article, choose the intended blog in the publishing dialog. Existing Shopify articles keep their original blog, so changing a default destination affects future publishing and does not move an article already created in Shopify.
Publish to Shopify fails
Rankvia attempted to send the content to Shopify but did not complete the publishing workflow. Read the current message, correct the identified destination, image, or connection problem, then check Shopify for the article before using a supported retry or publish action.
Publishing appears stuck
First check whether Rankvia is still sending the article to Shopify or waiting for a required image. Do not regenerate the article or repeatedly select Publish. Use a retry only after the operation has clearly failed, and check Shopify first if there is any chance the article was already created.
The Shopify installation is inactive
Rankvia cannot publish through an installation Shopify no longer considers active-for example, after the app was uninstalled or the connection changed. Restore the Shopify app connection before retrying the publication, and do not keep retrying while it is inactive.
I published the article as a draft, but Rankvia doesn't show it correctly
A Shopify draft has already been successfully sent to Shopify. Draft in Shopify means the article is not publicly live-it does not mean it was never published to Shopify.
Sent to Shopify
Status: Draft in Shopify
Check whether the article exists in Shopify Admin and is a draft. If it does, but Rankvia loses that publication state after reopening the article or Content Calendar, contact support rather than immediately publishing again.
The article exists in Shopify but Rankvia still shows it as unpublished
This can mean the Shopify operation completed but Rankvia did not retain or restore the corresponding publication state correctly. Compare the article title, destination blog, draft/live state, approximate publish time, and Shopify article URL.
Rankvia says published, but the Shopify article isn't publicly live
Content can be successfully sent to Shopify as a draft. Check the Shopify publication detail to see whether the article is Draft in Shopify or live. Sent to Shopify does not always mean publicly live.
The article was published with the wrong Shopify status
- Verify the publication option chosen in Rankvia: Publish live or Save as draft in Shopify.
- Check the article's actual state in Shopify.
- Correct the Shopify article immediately if necessary.
- Update the publishing choice for future content.
Existing publications can be updated through the Shopify publishing action; review the selected status before confirming the update.
The featured image is still preparing
Content and image generation can finish at different times. Don't regenerate the article solely because the image is still preparing. Wait for the image state to complete before publishing it with a featured image, or use the image option currently available in the Shopify publishing action.
The Shopify article is missing its featured image
Check whether Rankvia expected a generated image, whether it was ready before publishing, and whether Rankvia showed an image or upload error. If the Shopify article already exists, do not assume republishing the entire article is the correct image repair-first confirm its existing Shopify state.
Image upload failed
An image problem can occur after Shopify has already received the article. Check Shopify for the article and its current draft/live state before trying again. If the article exists but the image is missing, contact support with its URL rather than assuming another full publication will only retry the image.
Scheduled content did not publish automatically
Scheduling content and enabling automatic publishing are separate controls. Check that automatic publishing is enabled for the store, the Shopify destination is selected and active, content generation completed, the required publishing details are available, and the scheduled item is eligible to continue.
If automatic publishing is not enabled, scheduled content can stop for manual review before Shopify.
Automatic publishing is enabled but nothing happened
Check whether the item was due, generated successfully, is waiting on an image, has an available Shopify destination, and has an active Shopify connection. If Rankvia shows a connection or publishing problem, resolve that specific state before attempting another publication.
The article generated successfully but did not continue to Shopify
Successful content generation and successful Shopify publishing are separate steps. Check whether review-first publishing is active, automatic publishing is enabled, an image is still preparing, the Shopify connection is valid, and a destination blog is configured. In review-first mode, the article is waiting for you to review and publish it.
How to check whether the article has already been sent to Shopify
Open the publication details in Rankvia and check the Shopify publication status, whether it is Draft in Shopify or Published, and the Shopify URL when one is available. Open the Shopify article directly to confirm its current state before attempting another publication.
What happens if I publish again?
When Rankvia has the existing Shopify publication reference, publishing again updates the same Shopify article or page rather than creating a second normal publication. If Shopify already contains the article but Rankvia does not have that saved reference, do not assume a new publish is safe-check Shopify and contact support first.
I edited the article directly in Shopify
Changes made directly in Shopify are not automatically copied back into the Rankvia version. Rankvia shows a conflict warning when it detects that the Shopify version changed after Rankvia last published it. Updating Shopify from Rankvia after that warning replaces the Rankvia-managed content with the current Rankvia version, so review carefully before confirming.
The Shopify article looks different from the Rankvia version
Compare the article in Shopify Admin with the public storefront. Shopify themes control public rendering, including image sizing and some presentation. If the Shopify Admin content already differs from Rankvia, review the supported content transfer behavior before republishing.
See what Rankvia sends to ShopifyWhen to retry-and when not to
Retry publishing when
- Rankvia clearly reports a failed action.
- The connection or destination issue is corrected.
- Rankvia offers a supported retry.
- You have checked Shopify for an existing article.
Don't publish again yet when
- Publishing is still in progress.
- An image is still preparing.
- The article already exists in Shopify.
- Shopify and Rankvia publication state do not match.
