Shopify permissions and data used by Rankvia

Rankvia requests Shopify access required to operate the app and support its Shopify publishing workflows. This page explains what that access allows, why Rankvia needs it, and which parts of your store Rankvia does not use or modify.

The permissions described here match the permissions requested by the current Rankvia Shopify app.

Quick summary

Read supported Shopify content

Identify the store, publishing destinations, and content information required by the Shopify workflow.

Write supported Shopify content

Publish Rankvia-generated articles, pages, and supported media to Shopify.

Shopify-managed subscription state

Determine which Rankvia subscription is active when billing is managed through Shopify.

Content permissions and the Shopify app billing relationship are separate. The current integration is focused on app, content, publishing, and Shopify-managed subscription workflows-not customer or order management.

Permissions Rankvia uses

Permission areaWhat Rankvia uses it forShopify scope
Read contentRead the verified store identity, available blogs, and supported article/page and publication information needed to select a destination and preserve publishing context.read_content
Write contentCreate and update supported Shopify articles and pages, including publication state, SEO information, and supported article media when the publishing workflow calls for it.write_content

These are the only Shopify content scopes currently requested. A permission can support a class of Shopify actions; Rankvia uses it only for the supported workflows described here.

What Rankvia reads from Shopify

Store identity and connection

Rankvia uses the store and domain association to connect the correct Shopify store to the correct Rankvia website.

Available blogs

Rankvia reads the blogs available for the store so an article can be sent to the intended publishing destination.

Supported content information

Rankvia reads supported article and page information when it is needed for the Shopify publishing workflow.

Publication information

Rankvia uses publication state and resulting URLs to show whether content was sent as a Shopify draft or is publicly live.

Website analysis and Shopify data are different

Rankvia analyzes the public website associated with the store to build the Business Profile and understand the business, existing pages, products or offers, audience, positioning, and search context. This public website analysis is separate from the Shopify permissions granted to the app.

What Rankvia can publish or change

Rankvia uses Shopify write access for supported publishing workflows initiated or enabled by the merchant. It can create or update supported Shopify blog articles and pages, including their content, selected destination, draft or live state, SEO information, and supported article media.

When Rankvia writes to Shopify

Review before publishing

Rankvia sends content to Shopify when you explicitly choose to publish it.

Generated → Review → Publish to Shopify

Automatic publishing

Rankvia can send eligible scheduled content automatically only after automatic publishing has been enabled for the store.

Scheduled → Generated → Shopify

Installing the Shopify app does not by itself start publishing articles automatically.

What Rankvia does not use Shopify access for

The current Rankvia Shopify app does not request customer, order, product, inventory, theme, or storefront scopes. The current Shopify workflow does not use app access to read customer records or orders, manage fulfillment, change inventory or product pricing, or modify theme settings and unrelated store configuration.

Rankvia uses Shopify access for

  • Store association
  • Discovering publishing blogs
  • Publishing supported articles and pages
  • Supported article media and publication state

Not part of the current workflow

  • Customers and orders
  • Inventory and product pricing
  • Themes and storefront settings
  • Fulfillment and unrelated configuration

Shopify subscription and billing information

If your Rankvia subscription is managed through Shopify, Rankvia also receives the subscription state required to determine which Rankvia plan is active for the store. This can include the current plan, subscription status, approved changes, a scheduled upcoming plan, and cancellation state.

This billing relationship is separate from Shopify content permissions such as reading or writing blog content. Rankvia does not receive merchant payment-card details through Shopify app billing.

Shopify authorization

When Rankvia is installed, Shopify authorizes the app to perform the actions covered by the permissions approved for that store. Rankvia uses this authorization to maintain the Shopify association and perform the supported Shopify workflows.

Shopify information Rankvia keeps

Store association and installation state

The connected Shopify store/domain and information needed to know whether the app connection is active.

Publishing destination

The selected Shopify blog when Rankvia persists that destination choice.

Publication state

Information that lets Rankvia show that content was sent to Shopify and whether it is a draft or live.

Resulting URL and plan state

The Shopify article URL when available, plus Shopify-managed subscription information required for the active Rankvia plan.

Why Rankvia keeps Shopify publication state

After content is sent to Shopify, Rankvia keeps the publication information needed to show that content has already been transferred and to preserve its Shopify state when you return later.

How Shopify data fits into Rankvia

Information obtained through Shopify can become part of the context needed to provide the applicable Rankvia functionality. For broader information about Rankvia's data processing and privacy practices, see the Privacy Policy.

What happens when you uninstall Rankvia

Uninstalling the Rankvia Shopify app ends the active Shopify app connection. Future Shopify publishing is disconnected, while content already published to Shopify is not automatically removed from the store. Rankvia retains enough disconnected connection and publication context to support a normal reinstall; Rankvia-created content, planning, and account data are not deleted by uninstalling the Shopify app.

If Rankvia needs a new Shopify permission

If a future Rankvia feature requires additional Shopify access, Shopify may require you to review and approve updated permissions before the app can use that access. Rankvia does not silently gain unrelated permissions through the current installation.

Frequently asked questions

Can Rankvia see my Shopify customers or orders?

No. The current Rankvia Shopify app does not request the Shopify customer or order permissions required to read those records.

Can Rankvia change my products or inventory?

No. The current app does not request product or inventory scopes, and those actions are not part of the current Shopify workflow.

Can Rankvia publish without me approving each article?

Review-first publishing requires your explicit publish action. Automatic publishing can send eligible scheduled content only after it has been enabled for the store.

Does Rankvia analyze my public Shopify storefront?

Yes. Rankvia can analyze the public website associated with the store as part of website analysis. This is separate from private Shopify app permissions.

Does Rankvia receive payment-card details?

No. Shopify-managed billing provides the subscription state Rankvia needs for the active plan, not merchant payment-card details.

What happens to Shopify access if I uninstall Rankvia?

The active app connection and future Shopify publishing are disconnected. Shopify-published content remains in the store.

Why does Rankvia keep a Shopify publication reference?

It preserves the article's publishing state and lets Rankvia show whether it has already been sent as a draft or is live.
